It’s easy to get started. Typically you just need some basic information about names, dates, and general location. Initial assessment will explain how easy or difficult your project will be to build.

From there, if at least a few generations can be found, the work begins to trace your family history. Unlike most genealogists, I don’t charge by the hour, instead by pre-determined “Chapter” price.

Each email is called a “Chapter” with at least one generation covered in as much detail as possible. This can include: newspaper articles, obituaries, census records, births, marriages, deaths, historical journals, books, maps, historical context, to support the information.

You can pre-order as many chapters as you like, or can always order more in the future - pay as you go. For exhaustive research with a larger budget, I can be put on indefinite retainer and I will keep sending as many Chapters as possible until you want to pause active research or until leads end.

Most clients start with 1-3 chapters and then of course, add more as budget allows. If there is a dead end, or an impossibility to go back further without in-person consultation, that would be proposed as a research trip at an appropriate rate.

Chapters range in complexity and price, but generally most initial chapters are: $ 100-175 USD as a flat fee. I find it’s more convenient to charge a flat fee.
